From my tea beginnings I have loved The Republic of Tea. I’ve also recently enjoyed learning about matcha and its rituals. When I heard that The Republic of Tea created bagged matcha and green tea blends with other herbs, I couldn’t wait to try it.
Keep in mind, these blends aren’t your typical, vegetal matcha. The addition of herbs and green tea leaves make for a lighter, more balanced flavor. I eagerly opened up serenity when my package of tea arrived; serenity is a blend of lavender, and holy basil. The scent of the dry tea is holy basil dominant; you have to smell it four, or five times to get hints of lavender, which makes for a tea even those who don’t enjoy floral flavors could get on board with .
I followed the directions for steeping, and heated my Cuisinart Perfectemp kettle on the green tea setting, and steeped for 3 minutes. The liquor is light green with hints of straw yellow. On the palate, lavender is prevalent, with the zip and sweetness of holy basil coming secondary. I rarely sweeten tea on the first sip; this one doesn’t need additional sweetness at all. The Republic of tea’s main message is to enjoy tea, and life sip by sip, this cup pleasant, balanced, and a perfect meditation.
